Sønn av fotograf Carl Gustav N. og Dora With, gift 1936 med Randi Kristoffersen, datter av Johanne og Karl K., 1 sønn, 1 datter. Utlært hos faren. Ved en brann på Hamar i 1935 mistet firmaet hele sitt negatiarkiv og Norge måtte fotograferes på nytt. Hver høst i årene 1936-40 studerte han hos Agfa i Tyskland, sv.br. 1941, håndv.br. 1944, fra 1945 studier hos Kodak i Rochester og Ansco i Binghamton. Faglig leder og disponent i farens firma, Normanns Kunstforlag A/S (etablert 1906), og overtok det i 1950 sammen med brødrene. I 1945 valgt som formann i Oplandenes krets av norske fotografers forening, som straks etter ble omdannet til håndverkslaug, Oplandenes Fotograflaug.
