Gaten i midten var veien til øvre festningsområde med ble flyttet vestenfor bygningene til ventre (langs dagens karpedam) i 1833/1834 da slaveriet/Akershus landsfengsel overtok [[Lille provianthus]] som arbeidsanstalt, og senere også de andre bygningene fram til fengselet som fra 1946 var landssvikerfengsel, ble lagt ned i 1950.
