Det norske myrselskap satt opp en forsøksstasjon her på begynnelsen av 1900-tallet for å avdekke hvordan myrer kunne brukes til å dyrke avlinger. Straffanger fra Trondheim landsfengsel, og senere fra Akershus landsfengsel, ble brukt til å drenere myrene fra 1909 til 1913. Deretter ble avlinger satt.
