Foto: Therese Foldvik]]<br /> &#039;&#039;&#039;Jens Christian Samsing&#039;&#039;&#039; (født 22. mai 1758 i [[Nøtterøy kommune|Nøtterøy]], død 22. mars 1829 i [[Brunlanes kommune|Brunlanes]], [[Larvik kommune|Larvik]]) var sogneprest og stortingsrepresentant. Han går også under navnet Jens Clemetsen Samsing.<br /> <br /> Samsing var sønn av sogneprest [[Clemet Thue Samsing]] (1724-1797) og [[Elisabeth Paulsdatter Post]] (1725-1794). Han var [[Sogneprester i Tjølling|sogneprest]] i [[Tjølling kirke]] i årene 1797 til 1800, før han så ble sogneprest i [[Tanum kirke (Larvik)|Tanum kirke]], den gang Brunlanes kommune, utenfor Larvik. Han ble senere prost i 1821, og ble værende i Tanum kirke frem til sin død i 1829.<br /> <br /> Den 1. februar 1801 giftet han seg med Kristen Grønhof Harris.<br /> <br /> Samsing var stortingsrepresentant for [[Laurvig amt]] i [[det første ordentlige Storting]], som var virksomt fra . juli 1815 til 6. juli 1816.<br /> <br /> == Mannen og myten ==<br /> Jens Christian Samsing var, og er fremdeles, en kjent lokal figur. Blant annet hadde han rykte på seg for å ikke være streng nok med sognebarna sine, for å hjelpe de fattige i sognet sitt, og han hadde overnaturlige evner. Det ryktes at han spøker på stedet han døde, Tanum prestegård, med hodet under armen.<br /> <br /> I [[Norsk Folkeminnesamling]], [[Universitetet i Oslo, Blindern campus|Universitetet i Oslo]], finnes det to korte historier om prest Samsing i materialet etter professor i sosiologi og folkeminnesamler [[Kaare Svalastoga]]. Den første handler om da soknepresten i Eidanger kom for å refse Samsing for at han var for mild mot sognebarna sine. Samsing ba presten sitte, og han kunne ikke reise seg før Samsing selg hjalp han løs.
