Festivalen feires midnatt i måneden Maasi og er en natt dedikert til å be og faste for å motta Shivas nåde.<br /> <br /> Makaa chivaraaththiri blir feiret i Sivasubramanyar alayam, Oslo (Norges Hindu kultursenter). Hengivne holder våkenatt og utfører bønner gjennom hele natten for å ære Lord Shiva. Tempelet holder åpent sent og spesielleritualer utføres i de fire fasene av natten. Shiva Linga bades med forskjellige hellige stoffer som melk, honning og hellig vann samtidig foregår bønner. Hengivne synger sanger (bhajans) til å ære for Lord Shiva. Dette fortsetter gjennom hele natten noe som skaper en åndelig opphøyende atmosfære.<br /> <br /> Det er forskjellige måter å holde fasten på, og de som ønsker å faste må kjenne til reglene.De som ønsker å faste på Maha Shivaratri, må starte dagen med et kaldt bad, påføre seg hellig aske (vibhooti) på pannen og tenne et lys foran gudebildet i sitt bønnerom. Man skal verken spise eller drikke gjennom hele dagen og natten. I 2024 faller Makaa chivaraaththiripå fredag 3. mars.<br /> <br /> Chivaraaththirier en dag som feires av Shivas tilhengere. &quot; Chivaraaththiri&quot; betyr &quot;den mest velsignede natten for Shiva&quot;. På Maha Shivaratri, de som kan holde seg våkne hele natten vil motta Shivas fulle velsignelse. Det er sagt at ved å tilbe Shiva denne dagen vil alle bekymringer forsvinne og suksess følge.</div>
