Han har jobbet som guide og hundekjører på Svalbard og i Alaska, som bombehundfører i Libanon og Bosnia, og med lakseoppdrett på Færøyene. Han bodde tre år i båt mens han gikk på tekstforfatterstudiet ved Westerdals Reklameskole. Sangvik går for tiden på manuslinja ved Den norske filmskolen på Lillehammer.
