Foto Martin Bunæs.]] <br /> <br /> &#039;&#039;&#039;Norwegian Spitfire Foundation&#039;&#039;&#039; (NSF) er en flyhistorisk forening med tilhold på [[Kjeller flyplass]]. Foreningen har arbeidet intenst med å skaffe et luftdyktig Spitfire-fly med norsk krigshistorie til Norge. Flytypen var sentral for Flyvåpenets operasjoner fra fremmed jord, og innehar en spesiell posisjon i historien rundt [[andre verdenskrig]].<br /> <br /> == Dramatisk historie ==<br /> Spitfire av typen PL258 tjenestegjorde ved 331 Skvadron under krigen, og ble fløyet av et 20-talls norske piloter. I den perioden flyet var ved skvadronen hadde det de norske kodene FN-F og FN-K. Den [[29. desember]] [[1944]] måtte pilot Carl Jacob Stousland nødlande en PL258 på et jorde i [[Nederland]], etter et sammenstøt i luften med en annen norsk Spitfire. Stousland kom fra nødlandingen med livet i behold, og klarte å ta seg tilbake til egne styrker – etter 79 dager på flukt! Flyets videre skjebne var ikke kjent her i landet.<br /> <br /> == Gjenfunnet ==<br /> Restene av en Spitfire Mk IX PL258 ble i 2018 gjenfunnet i Nederland, og er nå sikret til bruk ved gjenoppbyggingen av dette eksemplaret.<br /> <br /> == Finansiering ==<br /> NSF ble i juni 2022 gitt et tilskudd på fire millioner kroner av den norske stat til gjenoppbygging av flykroppen til PL258 – et arbeid som er igangsatt i [[England]]. Det er for øvrig gitt økonomisk støtte til gjenoppbygging av andre deler av flyet både fra [[Riksantikvaren]]/[[Viken fylke|Viken fylkeskommune]] og private givere.
