Den grenser til [[Eda kommun]] i [[Värmland]], [[Kongsvinger kommune]] og [[Sør-Odal kommune]] i Hedmark, og [[Nes kommune (Akershus)|Nes kommune]] og [[Aurskog-Høland kommune]] i [[Akershus]]. Kommunen ble opprettet i [[1864]], da den ble skilt ut fra Vinger kommune, og har siden hatt uforandrede grenser.</onlyinclude>
