Dear Friend:
After the election I found it necessary
to immediately take care of work that had accumulated
during the campaign so my personal correspondence, as
a result, has been neglected. That is the explanation
for this rather belated note of appreciation. However,
I assure you that its tardiness does not reduce its
sincerity.
I am writing this to express to you person-
ally my gratitude for your generous treatment of my
work in the Senate, editorially and otherwise. The
independent editor who has the courage of his con-
victions is rendering a patriotic service to his
country the value of which cannot be over estimated.
You are rendering such service.
Permit me also to thank you for your many
personal courtesies to me during the past years and
particularly during the campaign.
