Washington, D. C., April 30, 1927.
Mr. Carl Hansen
Editor-in-Chef
Minneapolis, Minn.
Dear Sir:
On behalf of the Norwegian Overseas League, the
Norwegian Press Association and the Press Bureau of the
Norwegian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, I beg leave to
extend to you an invitation to visit Norway in the months
of July and August this year. It is the understanding that
you and the other eleven prominent Representatives of the
Press, who are being invited simultaneously herewith, are
to be the guests of their Norwegian hosts from the moment
you leave New York until you return, viz.: The passage and
the entire trip from New York and back to New York will be
absolutely at the expense of your Norwegian hosts. It is
not the object that you or any of the other gentlemen in-
vited shall write articles of propaganda for Norway; it is
merely the intention to have you visit our country in order
that you personally may gain an insight into conditions in
Norway and intimately acquaint yourself with our country
and people for the mutual benefit of both countries.
The departure is scheduled to take place on the
S.S. BERGENSFJORD from New York on July 7th, 1927, with
Royal, Norwegian Legation

arrival at Bergen July 16th. On July 17th the voyage is
continued by the S.S. STAVANGERFJORD to the North Cape,
with arrival at the Cape on July the 23rd. From the North
Cape the vessel will proceed outwards to the fjords with
arrival at Merok in Sundmør on July the 26th. From Merok
the party will be conducted in automobiles over the moun-
tains to the eastern part of Norway and the Capital, Oslo.
In the eastern part of the country you will be given op-
portunity to visit our most typically national valleys
and the most important industrial centres. The departure
from Oslo will take place on August the 9th with arrival
at New York on August 19th.
On account of the various arrangements which have
to be made, the number of the guess have been limited to
twelve and the hosts very much regret that on account of
the long distances in Norway, it has not been found pos¬
sible to invite the wives of the guests.
In this connection I have the honor to inform you
that I have been instructed by my Government to issue a
complimentary visa to every member of the party and also a
laissez passer. I have also been informed that reservations
have already been made on board the S.S. BERGENSFJORD and
that tickets will be given the members of the party when
they arrive on board.
The Norwegian hosts, represented by Mr. C. J. Hambro,
President of the Norwegian Storting and President of the
Royal, wegen Legation
- 3 -
Norwegian Overseas League; Mr. Thoralf Pryser, Editor and
President of the Norwegian Press Association, and Mr.
J. Vidnes, Chief of the Press Bureau of the Norwegian
Ministry for Foreign Affairs, have stated that should you
be prevented from accepting the invitation, they would
like to have you designate one of your most prominent sub¬
editors of the regular staff to go as representative of
your paper.
I should feel much obliged if you would kindly,
at your convenience, inform me whether you are able to
accept the invitation I have had the honor to extend to
you.
Very sincerely yours,
A. Lundh
A. Lundh.
