May 24th 87.
Dear Georgie end August.
Sunday morning I received
your kind letter af May 9th. We
are so glad to know you are well.
Papa went away Saturday in the
morning. To-day I received a letter
from him. Everything was so
nice, where he was. Lovely summer
weather, pleasant travelling companions,
and just business enought to feel
he was not quite idle. Nobody can
have å more carefree old age than
Papa, and the best af et all is - that
ne never neds angbody's help og
assistance en money matters. As long
os he lives his salary is sure and
the same from the gouvernement.
Old er Nation Stanght me å lesson
he opened i eges for the vatue af
moking han while the sin skines
I was amazed to learn about
Mr MacGown. He looked so honest.
But politics and Wall Street speculations
can kill all kinds of men. Don't you
think that any one of his family
knows where he has gone to?

It is terrible all af it. -
Now to speak af the norwegian
servant girls whom you are thinking
of. I shall nok do anything with

I think, I can get a couple af
girls to you and Mr Twadells
on the conditions you speak
about. But very clever girls
will not agree to stay long for
5 Dollars a mouth. They know
too well all about America. Al-
most every ger hos relations or
friends there, and they get them
ligher wages right har. But
I can get gaa - (og for os I can
find aut - good, hovest, plain
gerls, who åre willing to barn bet
know verg litte- os they have seen
veng lille begynd their over paa
heres. If you want some om
like that I can - I behøve
get you girls who will bind themselves
to serve you for 2 years, when
they get 5 Dollars a month - their
voyage paid but so that you draw
the travelling money off their wages in
3) course of time. -
The 26th.
I got interupled en ny writing by
friend ho come to spend the
evening witte me. - To day "Hekla" sails
for New York. Had I lots af money
I would run over to you for some
weeks even summer, and be back
again till Papa come home from
his travels. Å Lady I know is sailing
to-day to her høre en Chicago after
å visit in Norway of year. Hils
you be so kind, der Aand send
the lette package to Theodor the safest
way. My experience with the custor
hanse affairs en America hos given
me the wisdom never to come, naar
them, so Theodors package hos to
go to hun through you. - At os og
lovelig morning. Men I get this letter
well off, I som gang to Caroline to
