Horntved Skee Febr. 28th 1888.

To my beloved son Ludvig Christian Hansen Hornvedt,

at your departure for America.

At your departure I wish for you and your fellow emigrants

good luck and rich blessings during the voyage and over there. We

have to pray to Him, who is the only one to give good luck and

blessings in all our enterprises. We are afflicted at your departure,

you beeing far away from your folks. However, the Lord will «work»

things together for good. Blieve me: your father and mother are

heavy concerned with their children, especially for you today, my

beloved son. Do you know the care of your father and mother? If you

yourself become father, you will understand what is to be worried.

- 3 -

May God do everything well for thee always, spiritually and bodily.

However, if the Lord knows it is of benefit to thee to be chastised

in one way or another - many are the punishments of the Lord - be

humble and recognize the chastiment of the Lord.

My son, forget not my law etc. Proverbs III ,1-11.

My beloved son, I admonish you: beccareful, discreet.

cautious and not overanxious. The dangers are many. Well, I have to

finish my letter. It is not possible to coin expressions as I would

like to. There are many failures. However, you will put the most

charitable construction on all my writing. My intention is to ex-

press my best wishes for you. Remembering eachother, we have to make

intercessions one for another. We are in great need of inter-

cessions.

Fare you well, and be blessed. We will see each other again.

If not, we will see eachother in paradis, where there will be no

leave-taking. There are not sorrow nor departure. Farewell, farewell.

Your tender father

H. M. Hansen.

Please write us soon and frquently. We will be longing very, very

much for letters from you.
