Mr. Carl G. O. Hansen,
Dear friend Hansen:
I was deeply touched by the presentation to me on
the Fourth of July of a bronze bust, which had been ordered
by American friends. I find your name in the list of donors
and I want to thank you most heartily for this evidence of
friendship and goodwill on your part. It will stimulate me
to greater effort in endeavoring to prove myself worthy of
your good opinion and loyalty and in the discharge of my
duties as American Minister at Oslo. I shall always aim to
conduct myself as a representative American, democratic in
spirit and intercourse, and to create sympathy and respect
for the banner which is a reminder of our traditions and a
symbol of our fine ideals. I am mailing you a copy of
MORGENBLADET, of July 5th, in order that you may read an
account of the ceremony which took place at the Legation.
I have thought some of visiting the United States
in the autumn but may not be able to arrange matters so
as to get away. In case I do I look forward to calling
on
on you in Minneapolis. With warmest greetings to yourself
and Mrs. Hansen, I am,
